Red Oak Iowa

From the Desk of David:

MCHCFriends's is an outgrowth of a meeting in the fall of 2009 by a small group of local folks that had attended Montgomery County Schools - several of which are now closed. Their concern was the loss of artifacts and materials from those schools simply because there was no place where such items could be housed and displayed. They approached The History Center to request the possibility of being a repository for "Old Schools" memorabilia. It is important to note that this group was/is made up of all county schools, including those schools which are still open, namely Red Oak, Stanton, Villisca. Click here for more About Us

As an incentive to support these gathering efforts, MCHCFriends has offered to sponsor and support fundraising events to help defray the associated costs involved with the physical and storage requirements of such an effort.

Nature and Goals

MCHCFriends's objective and mission is to seek, solicit and secure artifacts, materials and memorabilia from Old Schools classmates and friends, as well as the general community. This effort is to be a benefit to the History Center in their efforts to dedicate an area within the History Center to display county school artifacts, as well as to have materials available for research purposes.

Furthermore, MCHCFriends will be active in fundraising projects that will benefit the History Center, and to thus support the on-going efforts of The History Center to dedicate a portion of the facilities to display items from all county schools. An Old Schools Day is scheduled for June 4, 2010.
